Due to an interior water leak on 1/23/25 caused by extreme cold, the Johnstown Flood Museum ONLY is temporarily closed. Thankfully, nothing of historic significance was affected. The water remediation team concluded their work, which leaves repainting, floor refinishing, and replacement of carpet and soundproofing materials. We are currently waiting for insurance adjustors and approval of quotes, a process we cannot control. In the meantime, we apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to remediate and repair our beloved flagship museum.

In the meantime, we are pleased to present Relic Tales of the Johnstown Floods at the Heritage Discovery Center, which is unaffected and operating normal business hours. This new temporary exhibition includes more than 200 artifacts and photographs, many of which have never been on display before, from the Johnstown flood of 1889 (as well as 1936 and 1977).  Welcome!

Welcome to JAHA’s new website!

We are delighted to unveil JAHA’s new website! It’s responsive (meaning that it looks and works great on mobile phones and tablets), which is increasingly important today — and we think it does a really good job of organizing a lot of information. This site has to serve the needs of a lot of different kinds of visitors. We operate several visitor sites that are part of the Johnstown Discovery Network, and we present a wide variety of special events, so tourists and residents need to be able to find that important information. We’re also very involved in preservation of important Johnstown landmarks like the Johnstown train station and blacksmith shop. We’re involved in economic development through heritage tourism, and we regularly conduct important research into our community’s shared history. Our archives and collections are a huge part of our mission, and are a key resource for researchers. We have a lot to say about all of these things, and we’ll continue to add more and more information to the site.

We hired the local firm Prime Design Solutions to complete the project, and we are grateful for their creativity, expertise and commitment. They are big supporters of JAHA as an organization — in fact, they donated a site to the Flood City Music Festival, as well as responsive email templates for both JAHA and the music fest — and they’ve gone above and beyond in creating a site for JAHA that will serve us well for many years to come.

This area of the website, the “News and Stories” section, will function as a blog, giving us the opportunity to share interesting tidbits about what we do on an ongoing basis, as well as news stories and other developments. Thank you for visiting!
