After a careful search, JAHA has named Andrew Lang as our new curator. In this position, Andrew will assist in all aspects of developing and executing exhibitions in JAHA’s museums, as well as maintaining and curating JAHA’s archives and collections of photographs, documents, and objects that are relevant to Johnstown’s history.
“Many qualified and interesting people applied for the curator position, but Andrew’s resume and background is outstanding,” says Richard Burkert, president of JAHA. “We’re lucky to have him.”
A native of Troy, NY, Andrew holds an M.A.in museum studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program at SUNY Oneonta, as well as a B.A. in history and American studies from Siena College. He has worked in exhibits and collections management at a variety of institutions, including the Brooklyn (NY) Historical Society, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (Cooperstown, NY), the Bethel (NY) Woods Center for the Arts, and the Albany (NY) Institute of History and Art. He’s participated in a variety of research projects, including preparing a National Register of Historic Places nomination for Parrott House, a historic hotel in Schoharie, NY.
“As a museum professional, it’s my goal to explore the meaningful connections between local history and community issues,” Lang explains. “For me, JAHA and its commitment to utilizing the past to promote local development represents the ideal place to accomplish this.”
Please join us in welcoming Andrew to Johnstown and to our organization!
