Heritage Johnstown strives to program the bridge lights in a manner that is inclusive, meaningful, positive, and fun. We light the bridge for religious and secular holidays (such as Christmas, Yom Kippur, Halloween, Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Thanksgiving, etc.).
Some observances, such as Father’s Day, don’t have a particular color palette associated with them (or are associated with colors the lights won’t produce, such as brown), but we do our best.
We light the bridge for national observances such as 9/11 and Election Day, as well as awareness events nationwide, such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, World AIDS Day, Domestic Violence Awareness, Pride, and Light it Blue for Autism. If you’d like to make sure we’re planning to light for an observance that matters to you, please use the form below to inquire.
We sometimes light for sports events such as the Olympics, Steelers evening games, or sometimes just the season of the year.
We will also light in support of local, public events being organized to benefit a charity or health-related cause.
There is no fee for such lightings. But if you love the lights and are able, please consider making a small donation to our campaign to sustain and maintain them. Thank you!
Heritage Johnstown recognizes that there are literally hundreds of lesser-known observances and awareness events, and accommodates requests to light for these whenever possible. Please use the form below to make sure we’re aware of the observance or community event that matters to you.
The lights are also available for rent for private events or commemorations (and are sometimes part of rental packages of Peoples Natural Gas Park). These can include but are not limited to:
Requests and rentals should be made at least a week in advance, but a month in advance is preferred. The fee for this service is $100 per evening, with additional evenings for $50.
Please use the form below to inquire about a bridge lighting rental.
Please understand that we cannot accommodate most requests for lightings to honor or memorialize single individuals, including national public figures and celebrities, except as rentals. Memorial lightings for local public figures, such as a first responder who dies in the line of duty or a community leader, are sometimes arranged at the time of that person’s passing.
As a matter of policy, Heritage Johnstown does not light for events or observances that are primarily political in nature. We have not and will not accept lighting requests or rentals for things like:
The bridge lights are intended to be a beacon of positivity, and we try to keep their focus close to home. So as a general rule, we avoid lighting for any type of natural or human-made disaster, including international political events.
We reserve the right to refuse any request or rental at our discretion.
When specifying colors, please note that the LED lights produce bright, clear jewel tones, nothing muted or pastel (for example: bright apple or ruby red rather than burgundy or brown; hot or candy pink, not baby pink; bright royal or robin’s egg blue, not navy or baby blue).
Multiple color combinations (generally, four colors or fewer is best), animations, and effects are possible — including sparkles, stripes, and more. Tell us what you have in mind, and we’ll design a look just for you.
